synonyms: self-determination, freedom, liberty, autonomy
Are you living in freedom today? What does that mean, if we are talking about health and fitness?
To me, that means I get to live in the present moment, free from the baggage of my past or fear of the future. I get to make choices based on who I am today, not who I was last year, or ten years ago or fifty years ago.
When I boldly claim freedom, I make a statement that I am not going to let things like past failures, guilt, shame, or words of discouragement that were spoken over me, rule me any longer.
I will let go of things that do not serve my highest purpose.
Over the years, I was enslaved by many behaviors that revolved around food and dieting. I often took an all-or-nothing approach. I'd go on unrealistic diets and set unrealistic fitness goals, and when I failed at them, I would swing wildly to the binge side of town. I also had what I call a free pass mentality. It's the weekend? Free pass to eat anything and abandon exercise. On vacation? Definitely a free pass to eat anything and abandon exercise.
Holiday weekend? Oh yes, free pass to eat anything and abandon exercise. I mean, c'mon!! I've been working hard, sacrificing so much, putting up with all this. Don't I DESERVE to treat myself???
Actually, you deserve to treat yourself well.
That probably looks more peaceful than all-or-nothing extremes and free pass binges. It's somewhere in the middle, where you get your walk in, eat holiday food, and still feel good about yourself and your choices.
Friends, we are more than conquerors. Step into the freedom that is yours. It's waiting for you. No more berating ourselves with dieting, inactivity, excuses, self-loathing, guilt or shame. We were made for more.
Happy Independence Day!
